Alabama Centers for Independent Living
Centers for Independent Living (CILs) exist to help people with disabilities achieve maximum independence in work, school, housing and every other part of life. CILs are driven by the philosophy that people with disabilities have the right and the responsibility to make choices to control the direction of their lives and participate fully and equally in their communities.
All CILs provide, at a minimum:
- Peer Support (Organizing social activities and meetings for a wide variety of disability categories)
- Information and Referral (Helping people get the information they need to live independently)
- Individual and Systems Advocacy (Speaking out to pursue personal rights and in policy change)
- Independent Living Skills Training (Education on the many elements for a successful life in the community)
- Transition Support (Bridging high school to college and/or work, and from institutionalization to independence)

Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (Vocational Rehabilitation)
The Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services has programs in the following areas:
- Jobs – vocational rehabilitation, work incentive, day services for people with developmental disabilities
- Independent Living – home services, services for people who are blind or visually impaired, in-home supports for persons with developmental disabilities, other supports for people with developmental disabilities, and residential living arrangements for persons with developmental disabilities
- Education – provides educational services at the Alabama School for the Deaf in Talladega, Alabama
- Early Intervention – provides assistance to parents of children from birth to age 3 who have disabilities or delays

Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind
The Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind has programs in the following areas:
- Adult Service – Regularly scheduled appointments with clients, families, and agencies. Provides technical assistance training for Deaf and Hard of Hearing consumers. Assist with filling interpreter service requests
Collaborates with state and community agencies to ensure consumers reach their maximum potential. Plan and participate in community education programs.
Assist Deaf and Hard of Hearing with independent living skills. Functions as a referral and resource person.
Develops and coordinates programs and services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing. - Education – provides educational services at the Alabama School for the Deaf in Talladega, Alabama
